Magnus Wiik
Magnus Wiik is an insatiable musician. Originally a guitarist, Magnus studied jazz and acquired a Masters in Improvised Music. Meanwhile, he developed an interest in Irish and American folk music leading him to learn banjo, fiddle, mandolin, Dobro, cello, Irish flute, pedal-steel guitar, and double bass.
With his Open String Department trio, he has taken an innovative approach to blending bluegrass and jazz. He is also a member of the quartet Tellefs, an innovative outfit exploring traditional material from both Ireland and Norway. Magnus has also worked with the American fiddler Meade Richter as Haley's Comet.
Magnus has released four critically acclaimed solo albums while having toured more than 30 countries spanning four continents. When not travelling, Magnus divides his time between Oslo and Rauland in Norway spending his time composing and recording in his home studio.
