Ben Sures
Blueberry annually features an Alberta troubadour within its lineup, and this year we are tickled to welcome Ben Sures for his first appearance at our festival. A veteran with three decades of experience, Sures has released several albums and like Ron Sexsmith, Sures possesses the heart and soul of the poet. To Sures, word choices, their placement and their rhythm are as vital to the communication as the subject or narrative.
Ben Sures is a guitar player who tells great stories in song, a natural performer with an instinct for humour and storytelling. Sures is immersed in the history of roots music, the old traditions informing this contemporary songwriter’s music. His most recent album The Story That Lived Here was Number One for consecutive weeks on the CKUA radio chart and was in the top ten of the national college charts.
Sures is a winner of numerous international songwriting contests. He has performed across Canada, in Beirut, Lebanon and Puerto Vallarta. Ben Sures is also the author of the children’s book The Boy Who Walked Backwards published by The Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre.
